Seattle Area Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter

For Hope For Strength For Life

Every once in a while, remarkable people with vision and compassion succeed in making the world a better place. In the world of Delta Gamma, a most remarkable couple, Dorothy Garrett Martin and Paul Martin, are a shining example of people whose foresight and generosity created a lectureship series that continues to impact lives today.

As philanthropists, the Martin's had a vision- to make discussions about values and ethics available on campus. To date the Martin family's benevolence supports the first 12 established lectureships across the country with their challenge grants. There are  currently 14 Delta Gamma collegiate and alumnae chapters with campus lectureships.

The Seattle Area Delta Gamma Alumnae chapter and the University of Washington's Beta chapter became a part of this trend in 2006 when we began earmarking funds for a lectureship. Proceeds from our key fundraising events- The Champagne & Chocolates Gala combined with the Beta chapter's Anchor Splash were donated to the lectureship fund and this summer we have reached our goal.

Our next step is to meet with a University of Washington representative to set up the ground work for a lectureship endowment fund. Then program planners must secure a committment from a donor (or donors) to provide a $50,000 matching gift 'challenge grant' and then Delta Gamma members will raise an additional $50,000 toward the lectureship.

Our Goal  To further educate students, the community, businesses and other universities on the value and importance of ethical conduct personally and professionally.

Why Values and Ethics Lectures?

Uniqueness.
No other Fraternity Lectureship currently exists in the state of Washington. Though some foundations will fund organizations and projects addressing this issue, few offer substantially-sized grants that not only educates students but also reaches out to the community.

Trust. A five-decade track record, organizational stability, credibility among greek organizations and universities, and a recognizable name that instills institutional trust.

Volunteerism. Alumnae and collegians combine their time, talent and expertise to fundraise, work with university officials, and put together a plan that maximizes campus and community impact.
